Visiting Lake Placid, NY

September 30th.... 2007... Bruce and I decided to take a day trip up to Lake Placid, NY so we could check out the fall colors the area is famous for this time of year.... We got to see so many beautiful shades of reds, oranges, and golden yellows mixed in and about the remaining green.... What a beautiful sight!!.. The downside was that the day was a bit over cast, so as brillliant as the colors were, we knew they could have been even more so had the sun been shining more brightly.... All along the way we'd stop here and there to take a few pictures as we worked our way north...

Bruce noticed this neat little park area as we were rounding one of the many bends in the road and pulled in so I could go crazy with my camera..... I made him pose for this picture, as he reminded me we were there for the fall colors not to take pictures of him....

Don't the mountains look beautiful in the distance bordered by all the bright colors of the surrounding trees.....

In the little parking area there was this neat little gazebo by the water's edge.... We thought it'd be a great place to try and get a picture with the two of us ..... After "much" fooling around with the camera trying to figure out the delay system, we gave it a shot.... Nice butt shot of me as I'm rushing back to stand with Bruce... Obviously, more tinkering was involved before we were able to make it work for us.....

And here we are.... the finished product of our efforts.... Don't we look relaxed and well posed??....

Once we reached Lake Placid, we found a place to park our car, which wasn't the easiest thing to do considering how active this little resrot town was with it's visitors from all over..... As we were walking down the street, I snapped this photo.... Beautiful pots of various flowering plants decorated the streets from one end to the other.....

We found this beautiful little spot as we were making our way from one end of town to the other.... We stopped here and bought a slice of pizza and just enjoyed the view before us.....

A very nice lady offered to snap this picture ......

We were thinking this was White Face Mountain, but later realized it wasn't....

We did decide that it would be nice to drive up to White Face, as it was only a few minutes away... along the way we stopped to take more pictures.... (of course)...

I love how the river beds were so full of rocks and in some cases boulders..... Bruce and I parked the car at this one spot and worked our way along this little road side path to get closer to this one ..... I'm not as young as I use to be, and it was quickly becoming obvious to me as I tried to make my way down the little (steep) hill leading to the edge of the river..... Here I'm taking a little rest while Bruce gets his turn to fool around with the camera....

Beauty everywhere about us..... Hard to decide where to point the camera next.... Thank God for digital cameras... Never have to worry about running out of film..... And yes... I was packing plenty of batteries and extra memory cards..... You never know....

We finally made our way to White Face...... We stopped here so I could take more pictures as we made our way up the long winding road.... Once again poor Bruce is forced to pose for me.... But don't you think it helps put everything more in perspective when there's someone in the photo .... And he's just so cute too....

This is where we're headed.... The very top of White Face Mountain....

In order to get there, we had the choice of either walking up the steep mountain trail or going up in an elevator, which was at the end of this very long and dimly lit tunnel.... The thought of trying to make our way up the mountain side was a little intimidating, and although I'm clustrophobic, we opted to take the elevator, which we reached by going through this entrance......

This was the temperature inside the tunnel.... We had to stand in this 'very long' line before it was our turn to get on the elevator...... Brrrrrrr .... And Bruce was in his shorts and definitely feeling the cold too.....

Once on top, we could look over the side of one of the walls, and I snapped this picture of our car where we had it parked ...... It's the white one at the top of the picture..... I actually zoomed in to take this, so the distance is greater than it appears here....

One of the views from the top.....

We weren't the only ones up there..... we were surrounded by people of all ages and sizes.... Everyone with camera in hand trying to get the perfect picture of a family member or friend against the beautiful background that was everywhere you looked.... Unfortunatel, as I mentioned, it was a bit overcast that day, so the true beauty doesn't come through as well as I'd hoped it would....

While I was running around from one spot to the other snapping away.... Bruce found this neat little area to rest and take in the view......

Proof I made it all the way to the top of White Face Mountain.... And this is the girl who's afraid of heights too....

Another nice lady came to our rescue and took this picture of the two of us.....

Once we finished taking pictures, we then had to decide between the mountain trail down, or head back to the elevator..... After viewing some of the others making their descent, we headed back to the elevator.....

Oh yeah.... more our style.... much more....

Here's Bruce making his way along the long dark tunnel heading back out into the day light ahead..... I was surprised I was able to get this picture at all..... It was really very dim in that tunnel....

One of the last pictures I took at the end of our long day.....

Once we returned to Lake Placid, we found a local restaurant (Pete's Place) where we had a nice dinner at a corner table overlooking the lake.... Both of us feeling tired from all the trekking we put ourselves through, we weren't looking forward to our long drive home.... most of which would be after dark.... I sat there wanting so badly to close my eyes and sleep and would have had it not been for my fear we'd hit a deer.... So awake I stayed, keeping my eyes pierced looking for any sign of deer.... And we saw several along the way too.... Finally by 8:45 we arrived home.... safe and sound.... And Bruce got to catch some of the Giant's game before he headed off to bed.... I was already there and well on my way to dream land....
